Principals Welcome
It is my pleasure to present our Rice College website.
Upon perusing our website, I hope it will be evident that Rice College, Westport is an excellent school which offers a comprehensive education to the boys and young men in the Westport area. We strive to create a happy working environment for teaching and learning to excel. At Senior Cycle we collaborate closely with our neighbouring girls’ school, the Sacred Heart School to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum offering an expansive subject choice.
A new extension completed in 2019 has transformed the layout of our school with state of the art facilities to cater for approximately 500 students. Our campus incorporates a school gym, an AstroTurf pitch and an all-weather grass pitch to the rear. Rice College is under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ERST). As a Catholic school within the Edmund Rice School’s Trust we strive to support and nourish the lives of those who are at the heart of our school, our students, staff and parents.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which endeavours to meet the needs of our diverse cohort of students in a safe, supportive, and nurturing learning environment. This curriculum currently includes the Junior Certificate, Transition Year (TY) programme, the Leaving Certificate, the Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) and the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP).
As Principal, I am confident we have focused on developing an excellent, caring school with outstanding Pastoral Care where every student is welcome.
Our talented and dedicated staff has created this environment to promote the full personal and social development in a caring Christian community of teaching and learning.

Deputy Principals Welcome
Welcome to Rice College, I hope this new and updated website gives you a real sense of what Rice College is all about community together we share values, experiences, ideas and most importantly knowledge and skills. The Rice College community grows from and around our students they are at the heart of what this school is all about; allowing them to grow and mature in an environment that meets their needs.
We hope that over the 5 and 6 years in Rice College our boys grow into responsible and decent young men, ready to face the challenges and opportunities that life brings. Rice College is about allowing them space to learn in the vast array of subjects on offer, in an environment that respects friendship, integrity and is enhanced with Sports, Music, Art, School activities and trips.
Success and happiness come in many forms- and our school community; that of parents, teachers, students, supervisors, SNAs, secretarial staff, groundspeople, auxiliary staff, guest facilitators in Mindspace and other community initiatives are all are part of the Rice College team; working together to do the best we can for the young people in our school.
What do I want for the young men in Rice College?
To be quietly confident, enthusiastic and most importantly happy.
To be tolerant and caring towards others.
To be resourceful and problem solve when needs be.
These values and traits come from the home and are embellished in the school community, and it is with great pride that I work with and for the young men in Rice College- they simply bring out the best in us.
